IMPULSE CONTROL
One of the first lessons we learn as we grow up is that we can't always have what we want when we want it.

As we mature, we learn to control our impulses in the effort to protect our health and safety or even our place in the family and society. We learn to set limits and tell ourselves "no" in order to avoid putting ourselves or others at risk. Most people get better at impulse control as they mature. Some mental health conditions, however, impair impulse control or feature poor impulse control as a part of the disorder.
People who struggle with substance abuse, behavioral addictions such as eating, gambling, and sex, or ADHD often demonstrate poor impulse control.
The counselors at The Counseling Center of Florence help clients identify their triggers and manage impulsivity, and conditions that feature impulse control.
